A record number of 1.2 billion mobile apps were downloaded the week of Christmas (during which an estimated 20 million new devices were activated). Marketers have been buzzing about mobile for years, and they are predicting that 2012 will be massive for mobile marketing and commerce.

As Berg Insight Analyst Rickard Andersson explained, “brands are now progressively embracing the mobile channel, including the entire range of apps from games and entertainment to utility applications.” In 2012, our attention — and marketing dollars — will be going mobile.
