Originally established as the Leake & Watts Orphan House, the organization marked its 190th anniversary in 2021. To honor nearly two centuries of service—spanning the Civil War, two World Wars, multiple pandemics, and countless societal shifts—Rising Ground sought to create an inspiring video capturing its enduring impact. Go Gladys was selected to conceptualize and produce this commemorative piece.
The video aimed to showcase Rising Ground’s remarkable journey of growth and transformation—from its origins addressing the plight of thousands of orphans on New York City’s streets to its current role as a leading provider of human services. Today, Rising Ground makes a meaningful impact in the lives of over 25,000 individuals each year, reflecting its ongoing commitment to meeting the evolving needs of the community.
Rising Ground’s “190 Years of Hope & Opportunity” is a striking example of what we refer to as “video without video”—a powerful narrative crafted without the benefit of original footage. While voiceovers and music add emotional depth, it’s the strength of the storytelling that truly drives this compelling piece, delivering a moving portrayal of social impact through words and sound alone.
At the heart of the video were heartfelt stories from alumni, illustrating the lasting impact Rising Ground has had on individuals over the decades. These personal accounts brought the organization’s legacy to life, highlighting its unwavering dedication to youth and families. The resulting 22-minute film was both powerful and moving, capturing the profound ways Rising Ground has transformed lives throughout its history.
